NWMMMG Meeting November 21 2021

At 10.00a.m. on a cold but fine Sunday morning, five members set off from the Esso Service Station at the Five Bar Gate on the A59. Our destination the Five Rise Locks Café in Bingley.
The route dictated by Tom-Tom (avoiding the M-Way) took us on the A59 to Skipton and then down on the A 629 to Keithley and then on the A650 to Bingley, our intrepid leader had entered the Café postcode into the SatNav and it took us to the desired location, unfortunately the road to the café was a dead end, and much to the amusement of one of the residents of a house at the bottom of the hill, we all had to turn around in a confined space, and park up at the top of the said hill.
After walking down to the café, we found it to be very busy, with people sitting outside in the sun, mainly due to the fact that the main part of the building was closed for refurbishment and they were operating from one of the doors, taking orders and processing them, giving a shout when your order was ready. The Egg and Bacon bap I had was very good indeed as was the coffee.
The Five Rise locks are the oldest and steepest in the country being some two hundred years old and lifting the canal some eighteen metres, very impressive looking from the top down as per the attached photographs.
The Group;- Kenneth Lee, James Upshon (guest) Stuart Hughes, Iain Wilson,
and Coin Mills, outside the café. Photograph thanks to Mrs. Lee
The journey back was a lot quicker through Colne, and on to the M-65 at Boundary Mill, with various members leaving at their respective exits. A good day out and a good ride.
